THE SHORTEST ROUTE TO OUR KITCHEN.
Not every supplier story needs to begin hundreds of miles away or involve a rare ingredient.
Sometimes, better sourcing simply means looking closer to home.
Station Farm Free Range Eggs is one of the newest additions to the Greek Tings family of suppliers: a local, family-run farm in Finedon, Northamptonshire, producing free-range eggs and selling directly to its community.
AN EVERYDAY INGREDIENT THAT MATTERS
Eggs may appear simple, but they are one of the foundations of a professional kitchen.
They are used across both savoury cooking and pastry, often in recipes where there is nowhere for poor quality to hide. Their freshness and consistency can influence everything from flavour and colour to texture and structure.
That makes them an ingredient worth choosing carefully—not something we want to treat as an anonymous kitchen staple.
Station Farm’s eggs come from free-ranging hens with access to open pasture. For us, that provides the combination we were looking for: freshness, quality and a clear understanding of where the ingredient comes from.

CLOSE ENOUGH TO COLLECT
As Greek Tings is still a fairly small team, we can collect the eggs from the farm ourselves.
For now, that arrangement works beautifully. It keeps the journey to our kitchen simple and gives us a direct connection to the place producing one of our most regularly used ingredients.
There is no complicated chain between the farm and our kitchen. We know where the eggs come from, we make the collection and we bring them back to be used in our food.
That sense of proximity is an important part of traceability. Knowing the name of a supplier is valuable; being able to visit the place ourselves makes the relationship more tangible.
LOCAL BY CHOICE
Using British produce has always been one of our priorities, but “British” alone is a very broad description.
When an excellent ingredient is being produced locally, supporting it makes sense—not only for the business supplying us, but for the wider food community around us.
Station Farm describes itself as a family farm rooted in care for its animals, land and local community. Its free-range eggs are sold directly from the farm alongside a changing selection of other farm and locally sourced produce.
It is an honest, uncomplicated model: food produced close to home and made available to the people around it.
SMALL CAN BE AN ADVANTAGE
Being a small business naturally brings limitations, but it also gives us flexibility.
We can visit a local producer ourselves. We can make decisions based on the quality we find rather than relying exclusively on large supply catalogues. We can build relationships gradually and change how we source as the business develops.
Collecting our own eggs may not remain practical forever as Greek Tings grows. At this stage, however, it allows us to keep the distance between producer and kitchen remarkably short.
We think that is worth making the most of.
QUALITY FROM THE GROUND UP
Traceability is not only about the most luxurious ingredient on a menu. It is also about the ingredients used quietly and consistently throughout the kitchen.
The eggs we crack into a recipe deserve the same consideration as the seafood, chocolate or wine we place at the centre of a dish.
Station Farm is a new supplier for us, so this is only the beginning of the relationship. What matters is that the foundation is right: a local producer, free-range eggs, quality we value and a journey to our kitchen that we can make ourselves.
Sometimes, the best supply chain is also the shortest.
